Advanced imaging techniques applied to the Knossos statuette inscription

Abstract The inscription of the statuette from Knossos, Heraklion Archaeological Museum Λ 95, has proven over years to be exceedingly difficult for correct identification its hieroglyphic signs. signs vary widely in their quality engraving, with some being so small and shallow that they cannot recognized at all by traditional techniques, stone’s surface shows evidence ‘staining’ after many centuries burial temperate soil. Furthermore, it appears were never actually completely engraved, what remnants original marking paint, now bridging areas disjoint engravings. Optical Profilometry equipment was employed unambiguously resolve engraved parts inscription, while Multi-Spectral Imaging used identify remnant paint.
